Setting the stage:  
In this scene, Nicolas is recalling his time away at school and the day he discovered the other side of Leonardo da Vinci's art.


While our careers ran on parallel tracks, I had to admit my interests were far more personal than academic. When I was hardly more than a school boy, I found myself confused by
a world of black and white, while I was nothing less than grey. My classmates
were consumed by seamstresses and barmaids, and while I found these fair women
fine enough to occasionally turn my head, my eye was consistently drawn to the
corded arm of the smithy or the flanks and mouth of my grandmother’s coachman.

Loving Leonardo -- a polyamorous Victorian love story with a touch of reader-interactive art history.
