Weekend Writing Warriors

It's Sunday and I'm participating in the Weekend Writing Warriors mini hop! The deal is to post 8 sentences from a writing project, published or unpublished. This time I'm offering a bit from Enchanted Skye.

First my 8, then details follow:
At twenty-three, black-haired, amber-eyed Beatrix MacCodrum was as beautiful as the rest of her kind. She was also a born homemaker, as the Selkie legends foretold. A Selkie woman would keep a lovely home if a man were lucky enough to find and wed one. No doubt this was true for Beatrix, though as yet unwed, she never lacked hopeful suitors. It was only the four of them now in the big house, and called between the sea and land like they were, her brothers came and went.
But not Bea. She’d been caught in a herring net as a child and it nearly killed her. Restless or not, since that incident, Bea preferred the land.

Setting the scene: Bea's brother Alex has returned from months at sea. She'll soon discover he's fallen under a potentially deadly charm.

 Here's the story

"With the love and humor, there's danger which is written so well and culminates in a wonderful, surprise ending. Enchanted Skye is an outstanding book. "

  1. I always enjoy reading about Selkies and your description of Bea makes me want to know more about her. Really enjoyed today's excerpt!

  2. I'm a selkie fan too. Such tragically romantic mythology.

  3. I can't blame her. If I'd been caught in a net, I'd stay on land too!
