Setting the Stage: After accidentally running over a dog on a dark road at night, Livie has John meet her at the clinic and the veterinarians stabilize the injured animal. John ponders the unusual stone carving of a bird the wolfish-looking dog wore tied around its neck, and wonders if the dog came from the reservation to the north. In this scene, Cora, John's archeologist wife, examines the figurine and determines it is, in fact, an ancient artifact. They have no idea the dog whose life they saved is actually a Native American shaman even older than the bird stone.

My Three:
Cora turned the stone in her hands. What would a reservation dog be doing three hundred miles from the reservation? And why on earth had it been wearing an ancient artifact?
