Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday (RO)(FA)

It's Sunday and time for the Weekend Writing Warriors. Participants post 8 sentences from a writing project, either published or unpublished. Today it's another snippet from my soon-to-be-released bit of fiction ~ The Changeling.

First my 8, followed by details~
Archie drained his cup and slammed it down with such force the wooden bottom broke off and rolled across the bar. He raged, “Ye know, ‘afore now I was never one t’ believe th’ auld tales, ye know, ‘bout her bein’ a witch an’ all. But I saw it in her tha’ day, an' it turned me’ blood t’ ice, tha’ Janet Roxburgh o’ whatere’ name she goes by now. Shameful tryin’ t’ make her husband a cuckold. The faithless wee bitch—”

Cutting off the ugly rant, Malcolm MacPhee growled, “Damn, ye, I’ll not hear another ill word about the lassie! And tha’s the second cup! Ye’ll no be breakin’ more!

What just happened~
Archie's carefully planned ravishment to force Janet to marry him goes awry. Stumbling upon the scene, Lenox discovers the odds three to one against him successfully fighting
off her would-be attackers. Overhearing the foul plot was to force her to marry, he pretends Janet is already married --to him. Now Archie is in the bar crying into his cups and maligning Janet's character. At this point, Lenox has just walked in. He's not happy.

What this story is about~

I adore fairytales. The Changeling is a Victorian spin on the fairytale of Tam Lin -- a story taken from
an old ballad from the borderlands of Scotland.

  2. This story just gets better and better, enjoying it very much. Excellent excerpt and I'm with Rafael, I can feel the tension building towards a coming fight! Really well done...
